Writing etiquette

Lauren Abbott, Opinion Editor

Everybody has opinions.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and we are very fortunate to live in a society where we can freely voice our opinions without fear of repercussions.

This is one of the great things of our student newspaper.

Now I may be a bit biased as the Opinion editor, but I believe that this section allows the student body to address concerns and feelings about events that are going on not only on campus, but worldwide.

Being able to read other students’ opinions on campus events and world activities has been really eye-opening and has allowed me to view some situations in a different light that I would never have considered had I not read their opinions.

Expressing our opinions is valuable, and no person should be afraid to write down and voice their opinion.

If you have an opinion about a topic and would like to write a piece on it, awesome! The Merciad is always welcoming new writers and different perspectives.

We also welcome Letters to the Editor if you have a counter-opinion to a previous article.

We ask that when reading and considering opinions that you please be courteous of the writer, and if you have a concern or comment about a specific piece, please contact the editing staff.

Staff emails are located on the previous page, or email me directly at opinionmerciad@mercyhurst.edu before reaching out to individual writers.

Thank you!
