The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA) club is a club that was started four years ago.
The current students’ running the club are Jennifer as President, Katherine as Vice President, Brett as Secretary, and Shannon as Treasurer.
Jennifer explains that the club is for students of “any gender identity or sexual orientation to come together.”
The club meets every Thursday in Room 3 at Sullivan Hall at 8:45 p.m. The club starts out with everyone describing anything good, or “rainbow,” that happened during the week, and anything bad, or “s***t – cloud.” Afterwards, they would discuss upcoming activities and events. In addition, the meetings are also for community building and peer mentorship.
The club runs events such as the Flaming Hearts dance in the spring and activities such as talks from people. One project that Jennifer said the club is working on is to make all the restrooms on campus “gender-neutral.”
“It’s really a safe space for people that differ in gender identity,” Jennifer said.
The project overall is for people who are transgender.
