'CSI' consultant , DrT, speaks of bodies and music

The Mercyhurst College community experienced an out-of-the-ordinary presentation when Gary Telgenhoff, or “DrT” as he is known to many, spoke about his profession.
Telgenhoff, a man with an aptitude for many different skills, spoke as part of the Mercyhurst Student Government’s five-speaker series.
Administration re-envisions Career Services

“He left on good terms with us and we wish him well,” Tobin said, not wishing to disclose Hvezda’s reasons for leaving.
Associate Directors of Career Services Frank Rizzone and Kyle Foust will take care of the internships organized by Hvezda.
Mercy Week events to raise awareness about Sudan

Mercyhurst will celebrate its annual Mercy Week from Saturday, March 20, through Friday, March 26.
College mourns death of adult student

Mercyhurst College mourns the death of a student, Matthew J. Weber. Weber, 27, of Erie died at his campus apartment on Friday, Feb.19, 2010.
Weber was an adult graphic design student who graduated from Mercyhurst Preparatory School in 2001. According to his obituary on GoErie.com, Weber loved hiking and the outdoors, music and boating on Lake Erie.
The Erie County Coroner’s office said the official cause of death would not be known for several weeks, but no foul play is suspected.

College considers razing Highland apartments

Ethan Magoc photo: Windows that blow open or do not latch are being replaced in the Highland Square Apartments. Mercyhurst College administrators are deciding if they should demolish the apartment buildings at the top of Briggs and Lewis Avenue.
Residents of these buildings have experienced mold, insect infestations and windows that blow wide open or are difficult to close or latch.
“We recognize that Highland Square has a significant need for renovation,” Vice President of Student Life Dr. Gerry Tobin said.
The college conducted a study of the Highland Square Apartments to see if it is “worth our investment to make repairs to those buildings or ought we to look at demolition of the buildings,” Tobin said.
Tobin and Assistant Vice President of Student Life Laura Zirkle received the results of the study on Friday, March 5. Before the results can be made public, the Mercyhurst Board of Trustees and Mercyhurst President Dr. Thomas Gamble must review them.

Mercyhurst College honored Sister of Mercy Marilyn Lacey with the Archbishop Oscar Romero Award for 2010 on Tuesday, March 9.
This year’s honoree, Lacey, has dedicated 25 years of her life to helping refugees in Africa, Southeast Asia and the United States.
Fashion show teaches how to dress professionally
By Alicia Cagle, Staff writer on Mar 10, 2010 08:01:02Kappa Delta Pi, Mercyhurst College’s education honor society, is having a “rags-to-riches” fashion show where students will model inexpensive professional clothes.
The fashion show is Saturday, March 27, at 3 p.m. in Taylor Little Theatre.
The point of the fashion show is to “show everyone that you don't have to spend tons of money just to look professional,” junior and Kappa Delta Pi advertising committee member Christina Borelli said.
The models will be wearing clothes that are acceptable in the professional world, but the outfits will cost only $10 each.
Administration plans for new academic building

Mercyhurst’s business, communication, graphic design, hospitality and intelligence majors will soon have a new home.
Groundbreaking could begin as soon as 2012 for a new academic building on Mercyhurst's main campus that would house three of the college's majors, as well as an auditorium and meeting room for visiting conferences and lectures.
College administrators are currently researching site possibilities and fund raising toward the building's total projected cost of $10 million.
Adult student found dead on campus
By Editor-in-chief, JoEllen Marsh on Feb 19, 2010 10:05:12Authorities are investigating the death of an adult male student who was found dead at his apartment on the Mercyhurst College campus late Friday afternoon.
According to college officials, there was no indication of foul play.
Erie city police reported the call went out at approximately 4 p.m. to a ground level apartment at 3810 Lewis Ave. The Erie County Coroner’s office could not be reached for comment Friday night.
College officials report that the victim was an undergraduate in the Adult College.
Silent art auction to benefit Erie area’s women veterans

Mercyhurst College senior Jordan Zangaro has organized a silent auction to benefit women veterans.
Zangaro is an intern at My Father’s House of Erie. As part of her internship, she helped develop the idea of transforming dresses into works of art as a fundraiser.
The auction, “Women in Transition: Silent Art Auction,” will take place on Monday, Feb. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Cummings Art Gallery.
Teams have turned the dresses they purchased into different items including paintings, lamps, pillows, clothing and table decorations.
