News Police investigate assault on senior
By Joshua Wilwohl Editor-in-chief Erie police are currently investigating the assault of a Mercyhurst College senior that occurred Saturday night in the 700 block of East 38th Street. The victim stated he attempted to break up a fight of three other Mercyhurst College students in his yard when he was blindsided by one of the assailants. "We were in our house and all of a sudden a bunch of football players showed up and started fighting outside of my house," said the victim. "I asked them to leave and they refused." The victim said he was treated at a local-area hospital for facial injuries, including a broken nose. Mercyhurst College Office of Residence Life and Student Conduct said they received unconfirmed reports of an incident in the same city block that night. Mercyhurst College Director of Athletics Craig Barnett said there’s an open investigation regarding an incident off campus. "Erie police are currently looking into the investigation, but no names have been released yet," he said. Anyone with information is asked to call the residence life office at (814) 824-2422.
