News Fashion for 'Hurst, books for Erie students
By Tim Hucko Staff writer
The runway is lighting Saturday, March 15 at 1 p.m. in the Mercy Heritage Hall for a premiere fashion show, hosted by Kappa Delta Pi to help support local students in their quest for success. The Mercyhurst College chapter of this International Honor Society in Education, KDP, is holding a luncheon and fashion show that will highlight the dos and don’ts of business attire. Tickets will be on sale for $8 or $15 for two in the Herrmann Student Union Tuesday March 4 through the 7 and again March 10 through the 14 from noon to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Proceeds from the event will help fund KDP’s annual program, “Reading is Fundamental” which supplies local city schools with over 1,000 books to help students further their education outside the classroom. The event will encompass a luncheon, fashion show, and raffle all packed into 90 minutes of high fashion fun with Mihailo “Mixa” Jovanovic emceeing the event. Such an undertaking requires massive amounts of support and coordination from numerous retail stores, students, caterers, and committee members. “We have almost everything covered; all we need now are models to walk the runway,” said event chair Lauren Weisser. “We would greatly appreciate any students willing to help.” Clothing and accessories will be provided by New York & Company, Payless Shoe Source, Target, JC Penny, Macy’s, Eddie Bower, and Sears. “We are trying to show students the best way to dress in a funny and light hearted way,” said Weisser. “It is important to look sharp and impress everybody at the table.” In addition to the show and food, raffle baskets will be drawn throughout the event for local hotspots such as the Cornerstone, Teresa’s Italian Deli, Dairy Queen, and many more. KDP members are hoping for strong support to achieve their goal of purchasing 1,000 books for the local students. “There are hundreds of local children who have no books on the shelves at home; this is a fundamental resource to help educate our youth,” said Weisser. “The best way to help us is to attend the show and have a little fun while you’re at it.” Any student interested in volunteering for the event may contact Jillian Perfetti at jperfe43@mercyhurst.edu. Models will be required to attend two rehearsals prior to the show. For more information email event chair Lauren Weisser at lweiss90@mercyhurst.edu.
