Video game review: Runes of Magic
December 13, 2010
Pros: Very good game play, Great graphics, free!
Cons: Slow to install, Better with friends
Stars: Five out of Five
Runes of Magic is a massively multi-player online role playing game (MMORPG) that takes place in the mythical lands of Taborea. It is a land that is only just recovering from a Dark Age known as “The Age of Punishment.”
Players can play as a member of one of two noble races that rule the land, the Humans or the High Elves. A player will go out and complete quests to try and bring stability to the land, and therefore rise to power and glory.
The game is made by Runewaker Entertainment and it is free to download and play at Runes of Magic.
This game is easy to play with an open world to explore to one’s hearts content. This game has so many levels of fun that I can’t name just one good and bad thing about it.
Every time you log in, you are always experiencing something new in the way of interacting with the world. The game mechanics are very similar to World of Warcraft (WOW), which gets no complaints from me.
From the joy of the quest grind, to the story line to the exploring, this has a little of everything for different gamers.
Though the system is similar to that of World of Warcraft (WOW), when it comes to graphics there is no argument: This game is better.
One would expect there would be a price tag somewhere on this, or even some sort of monthly fee, but there is none. This game is almost completely free. The only time you would have to pay money is to buy diamonds, which allow you to buy better items.
Now this game is not with its downsides. The biggest, glaring problem is that the game is slow to install onto your computer. It took me about two days to get the program downloaded.
The second biggest issue (which is a downside for all MMORPGs) is that, if you don’t know anyone, there is only so much you can do. The point of an MMORPG is that it is multiplayer and to really enjoy this game to its fullest you need to play with (or find some) friends.
This game is the best game I have seen of its kind next to WOW, which is a huge thing to say considering WOW is the king of the MMORPGs. This game brings a lot to the table and I have no issue in calling it the King of Free Games. Hands down it gets five stars out of five.
