Getmovielink.com photoThe Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center and the Guelcher Film Series are presenting the acclaimed new film “The Kids are All Right” today at 2 and 7:15 pm. A “Brew and View” event will precede the evening showing.
The film features an all-star cast of Annette Bening, Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo with direction by Lisa Cholodenko. The film addresses a non-traditional family in a script filled with comedic relief and endearing scenes.
The story follows a modern family comprised of two teenage children with two mothers living in Southern California. As the children grow up, they begin to look for contact with their biological father.
When the elder child, Joni succeeds in meeting her father, the family dynamic is challenged, changed and redefined by the new relationship.
The father, played by Mark Ruffalo, is a bachelor with a relaxed and fancy-free attitude, which is sharply in contrast to the parenting style of the two mothers. Nevertheless, the charm and appeal of a new friend creates warm and positive connections for the children.
“The Kids Are All Right” was first presented at the 2010 Sundance Festival where it received considerable praise. It went on to the Berlin International Film Festival to win the Teddy Award.
Both honest and sincere, “The Kids Are All Right” is an irresistible depiction of the family, and all that makes relationships go round. New York Times says, “With characters who are as honest as the movie’s Los Angeles locations … director Lisa Cholodenko’s best work yet.”
Tickets are free for students and can be purchased at the PAC box office before each showing. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., the PAC will host a “Brew and View” — featuring several local restaurants — in the Cummings Art Gallery.
All students over the age of 21 are welcome to come and sample Erie’s craft beer and quality fare as part of the evening. A great way to celebrate Erie and experience the local culture, each “Brew and View” is free to ticket holders.
With an excellent film, tasty treats and no cost, this Wednesday is sure to be a great event for all Mercyhurst students.
