Last week Apple sent out another set of mysterious advertisements containing only the number 12 with a long shadow that looked like a 5.
A week later and the cat is out of the bag.
Apple is now announcing the full specs on the iPhone 5 as well as the release date of Sept. 21 and an affordable $199 (16GB) price tag.
The iPhone 5 stole the show with its hardware updates including a 4-inch screen, thus allowing room for a 5th row of apps, an 8 megapixel back-facing camera with panorama, and the new thunder cable used for charging and data transfers.
This model has a 6 chip that is twice as fast as its predecessor.
The iPhone 5’s frame is a combination of glass and aluminum and weights 20 percent less than the 4S.
In terms of software, Apple will be releasing the iPhone 5 with iOS 6, its newly constructed operating system.
Some of the new features include a stunning turn-by-turn navigation system that can switch from map to satellite format when navigating.
Siri has been updated and can perform a wide range of functions for you from posting on Facebook to suggesting a movie for you to watch.
The last big software feature is the Passbook app that allows you to manage all your tickets, coupons, and passes in one central place.
The iPhone 5 was not the only thing that was revealed today. Apple also unveiled two new iPods.
The iPod Nano was newly reconstructed; it now features Apple’s home button as well as a bigger touch screen and will come in wide variety of colors.
The new iPod touch will also have iOS 6, a high-resolution retina screen, and is even thinner than the previous models. The last big unveiling was the Earpods. This is Apple’s new take on the earbuds that they have been working on perfecting for the past three years. Their goal with the Earpods was to make something to fit most peoples’ ears.
Just when it seems that our phones can’t get any smarter, our tablets any thinner or our MP3 players any savvier, Apple has found a way to do it all. As usual, Apple is continuing to set the bar when it comes to technology.
