Jen Feret, a 2007 Mercyhurst graduate, has put Mercyhurst softball on the professional map.
Feret, who played softball at Mercyhurst from 2004-2007, now plays for the Western Magpies Premier Softball Club in New Zealand.
Feret joins the professional softball realm after a stellar standout career at Mercyhurst. Now in New Zealand, Feret first had professional softball stints in Switzerland and Germany.
Head coach Sara Headley remarked Feret as one of her finest players over the course of her coaching career.
“Jen was a very competitive player and person,” said Headley. “It was that competitive drive that helped her be such a successful player.”
Feret succeed both on the mound and at the plate. She served as both a top hitter and pitcher for the Hurst. During her senior campaign, she led the team with a 1.47 ERA while also batting .345 with 16 home runs and 9 stolen bases. During her underclassman years she also accumulated many honors including second team all-GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) both freshman and sophomore year(s).
“Having a former player from Mercyhurst playing professionally is great to mention, especially to prospective recruits,” said Headley.
While at Mercyhurst, Feret served as an RA (resident assistant) while pursuing a degree in Education. After graduation, Feret briefly returned to the Laker staff for two years where she served as the pitching coach.
