Volleyball clinches spot in PSAC tournament
November 7, 2012
Although the Lakers had a rough weekend, losing to both Gannon University on Friday, Nov. 2, and Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday, Nov. 3, the women’s volleyball team holds a spectacular record of 24-8 overall.
Despite the losses suffered this past weekend, the Lakers are 11-6 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division, securing them a spot in PSAC tournament competition. Additionally, the Lakers are ranked an impressive seventh place in the Atlantic Region.
Sophomore outside hitter Camille Alvarez is ecstatic to be apart of such a productive team.
“It’s a really good feeling to be ranked seventh in the Atlantic Region rankings. We are all really excited about it because it gives us the chance to play in the NCAA playoffs, which we haven’t done since 2009,” said Alvarez.
Alvarez knows that the Lakers’ remarkable standings will not get to her teammates heads.
“With our win streaks we definitely are very confident in ourselves, but we are still humble about our record and know that we have to go into every game with the same intensity. We cannot underestimate any of the teams we play,” said Alvarez.

With such a productive and successful season thus far, the Lakers have relied on a strong team relationship to keep winning games.
“The aspects of the team that are helping us with our record this season is the way that we interact with each other. We all have the same goals, and with seven seniors on our team right now, they are really determined to leave behind a good legacy and to leave on a good note,” said Alvarez.
Although the Lakers’ 11-game win streak was ended over the weekend, the team will strive to restart it on Friday, Nov. 9 when it will travel to Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) to compete against the Crimson Hawks.
