Erie Police Department (EPD) and Mercyhurst Police and Safety investigating the scene of an apparent suicide scene near the Old Main building this morning.

Erie police reported the male whose body was found near the statue of Mary was not a Mercyhurst student. According to an update on the university’s portal website posted by President Thomas Gamble, this was an “isolated incident.” Investigators this morning reported there was no danger to people on campus.

Some students reported hearing sirens early in the morning, after which the entire front lawn of Old Main was taped off, the body covered with a blue tarp.
