Women’s tennis has consecutive shutout win

The Mercyhurst University women’s tennis team earned its second consecutive shutout victory, defeating the Marauders of Millersville University by a 9-0 final on Oct. 5.
Mercyhurst started strong, and picked up momentum sweeping the Marauders and only allowing two points total in the three matches.
Senior Caroline Bristol and junior Sarah Baich started with an 8-1 victory. Senior Courtney Thompson and freshman Annie Baich followed suit with an identical 8-1 win. Along with, Junior Katelyn Caniford and sophomore Devon Hubbard teamed up for an 8-0.
For the second straight day, the Lakers swept singles play as well, with all six victories occurring in back-to-back sets. Three players, Courtney Thompson and Sarah and Annie Baich, earned 6-0, 6-0 victories over their counterparts from Millersville. Two others, Caniford and junior Taylor Wedlake, only allowed to have one point scored during both of their matches.
The Lakers have been working hard, and all contributing to the team’s success to make this season one to remember, with three success wins so far.
The women’s tennis team will pick up their season again during the spring on Feb. 7 against St. Bonaventure University.
