Women's soccer finishes strong with 9-9-1

The Mercyhurst University women’s soccer team saw its season come to an end on Tuesday, Nov. 5, with a 5-0 setback to seventh-ranked California University of Pennsylvania in the opening round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament.

The Lakers finished their season with a 9-9-1 record and 8-7-1 in the PSAC. It was Mercyhurst’s first appearance in the PSAC Tournament since dropping a 1-0 decision to Indiana University of Pennsylvania back in the opening round in 2009.

Sophomore Ellie McDougall was peppered all afternoon and recorded 10 saves in the loss. It tied for her second-highest save total of the season.

The Lakers also had some honorable mentions with two players being named PSAC All-Conference third team. Senior Perrin Kern and sophomore Lauren Testa captured the title which was announced last Wednesday afternoon. Kern and Testa both captured their first PSAC All-Conference nod in their career.

Kern captured her first PSAC All-Conference honor as a Mercyhurst Lakers. The defenseman is second on the team in scoring with four goals and three assists for 11 points. She has collected 24 shots with eight of them reaching the net.

Testa led the team in scoring with seven goals and two assists for 16 points. The forward tallied two game-winning goals against West Chester and Pitt-Johnstown. The sophomore led the team with an attempted 50 shots with 32 reaching the goal.
