The Mercyhurst University football team was on an impressive six game win streak going into their weekend game against the Crimson Hawks of Indiana University of Pennsylvania at George P. Miller Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 20.

At first, things were looking good for the Laker football team. They were in the lead, 13-7, at the end of the first half. That came to an end in the second half when the IUP Crimson Hawks scored 24 unanswered points. The Lakers ended up losing, 13-31.

Sophomore defensive back Colin Kimball can reflect on the loss as only a speed bump on the Laker’s route to claim the West.

“It was a tough loss, but we all realize that we have to forget about it and focus on the next opponent. Everyone is just excited to get back out there, have a good week of practice, and get ready to play Edinboro,” said Kimball.

While the Laker’s win streak still in full swing, the Lakers prevailed over the Millersville Marauders (45-7), the Clarion Golden Eagles (22-14), the Slippery Rock Rocks (38-23), the Cheyney Wolves (36-10), the Lock Haven Bald Eagles (19-10), and the Gannon Golden Knights (38-29).

Mercyhurst still remains in the postseason picture despite the loss. The Lakers maintain a conference record of 4-1 going into their next game, against Edinboro University’s Fighting Scots, who currently have an all-time series lead over the Lakers, 5-3.

“It should be a good game. Edinboro is a tough team, they always play hard, and so we have to be ready,” said Kimball.

The Lakers will travel to Edinboro University to face the Fighting Scots at Sox Harrison Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 27. Mercyhurst will fight to reclaim their win streak and continue their successful season.
