Wrestling finishes sixth at PSAC Championships

The Mercyhurst University wrestling team took sixth place at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships hosted by Kutztown University. The team took sixth out of a total of 10 teams.
Top performances came from led by freshman Dylan D’Urso and senior Eric Lundgren who both finished fourth at 133 pounds and 184 pounds respectively.
Five wrestlers finished in the top six positions in their weight classes.
“Our success will ultimately endure through the continuation of our focus and us working hard everyday,” said senior Clint Schaefer.
The PSAC Championships were comprised of both Division I and Division II members of the PSAC. Mercyhurst finished second among the Division II schools with 52.5 points, Kutztown finished with 59.5.
In addition to Lundgren and D’Urso, sophomore Michael Griffith (149) and redshirt junior Tyler Berger (157) placed fifth. Freshman Willie Bohince finished sixth place in the 125-pound bracket.
Redshirt sophomore Nick Hannan (141 pounds), senior Clint Schaefer (165 pounds), sophomore Grant Chase (174 pounds), freshman Tyler Landfried (197 pounds) and freshman Josh Ransom (285 pounds) also competed for the Lakers at the Championships.
Before the PSAC Championships, the Lakers defeated No. 20 Ashland (Oh.) and finished 3rd at Ohio-Northern.
“We have a young and energetic team,” said Schaefer. “This energy fuels the battle mentality in us, combined with our determination and hard work, will lead to our success.”
The Lakers are set to host its first dual meet of the season against East Stroudsburg Saturday, Dec. 15, at 4 p.m. in the Mercyhurst Athletic Center (MAC).
