Men’s Tennis Player Travis Beck Headed to PSAC Championship

The Lakers Men’s Tennis and sophomore, Travis Beck, earned an outstanding run into the PSAC Men’s Singles Championship match on Sunday.

Beck looked like he was well prepared right off the bat. “Over the summer I trained hard preparing myself for the season. I wanted to come in and help get the team off to a strong start. I went into the PSAC tournament confident and ready to compete,” said Beck.

“My coach and my teammates were supporting me the entire time and were definitely a big help on the court. Overall it was a lot of training, support from my team, and a commitment to the team that helped push me through the matches,” said Beck.

Overall the Lakers looked good as they also had Robert Rizea work his way into the semifinals on Sunday.

Beck proved a great showing by defeating PSAC Men’s Player of the Year and top seeded Rushi Amin of Kutztown in the opening round of the PSAC Tournament. His mindset seemed to be in the right place.

“I was excited. I played Rushi in last years PSAC tournament and wanted another shot at him after losing last time. I was committed to doing whatever I needed to do to win that match,” replied Beck.

This victory was well earned and led him to the second round win later that day.

Sunday was a new day but Beck still proved his skills by winning his semifinal match vs. third seeded Sambrick of Millersville.

The Championship match for Beck was to be against Varun Desai from Kutztown. Unfortunately his streak was cut short when he dropped a straight set.

Beck looks forward to the rest of the year and what lies ahead for the Lakers and their goals.

“I’m hoping to help the team bring in some wins for Mercyhurst this year, and I think we have a very good chance at the PSAC championship. We definitely have a good season ahead of us. Next weekend we have the ITA tournament and I am looking forward to some tough competition and hope to carry over my success from the PSAC championship,” said Beck.
