Choir gives concert full of festivity

Sunday, Dec. 8, the Mercyhurst Concert Choir, directed by Rebecca Ryan, Director of Choirs, will be performing Gloria by Francis Poulenc with soprano soloist Ms. Lydia Beasley, Assistant Professor of Voice.

The concert will take place in the Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. The choir will be accompanied by a full string orchestra and the Mercyhurst String Ensemble will also be performing a few selections, including a variety Christmas selections, which is directed by Dr. Joseph Kneer.

The choir will also be giving another concert Wednesday, Dec. 11, at St. Mary’s Chapel at the Mercyhurst Northeast Campus at 7 p.m.

This performance will include selections from Poulenc’s Gloria and an assortment of Christmas Carols. This concert will include the Mercyhurst Concert Choir, Carpe Diem women, and a duet by senior Marisa Jacobson and sophomore Sarah Creighton.

Sophomore Sarah Creighton expressed her excitement about the upcoming concert. “I am thrilled and honored about the opportunity to perform the solo soprano line during the St. Mary’s performance of Poulenc’s Gloria. It isn’t often that a vocalist my age gets to sing a solo line in a major work. The choir has worked extremely diligently and makes this beautiful piece sound even better,” Creighton said.
