A pair of carrer milestones highlighted the weekend. Sophomore Jess Jones scoring her second career hat trick, and junior Vicki Bendus recorded her 100th career point. The College Hockey America Player of the Week went to sophomore Bailey Bram for her performance Saturday, the second time this season Bram has received the honor.

The Lakers are now 13-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference and currently possess a seven-game winning streak.

“We have been working hard on the little things in practice and it raelly has been paying off in our play recently,” said Steadman.

The Lakers’ next series will be at St. Lawrence University. The first game will take place Friday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m., and the second game is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 12, at 3 p.m.

“St. Lawerance is always one of the most competitive series of the season and they should be a tough match up for us,” said Steadman.

The Lakers will look to continue this hot streak as they make there push towards the postseason and some think this team may better better than the last one.

“I think that this year we have a much better attitude as a team and we are much more focused. We really want to go out there and prove we belong and can win it all,” said Steadman.

The Lakers squared off against Robert Morris University Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

Things did not start out well in the first period. RMU’s Colonials recorded the first goal of the game at 9:02. The Lakers caught up quickly when Jones scored to tie 25 seconds later.

The Lakers stuck with this quick shooting to take a 3-1 lead at 13:01, scoring two shorthanded goals in a space of 19 seconds. These came courtesy of junior Ashley Cockell and sophomore Kelley Steadman.

The Lakers tallied two more goals in the second period. Jones put up her second goal at 2:28. Number five was a breakaway from Bendus while shorthanded to put the Lakers up 5-1. The Colonials retaliated at 17:34 with a power-play goal.

Jones completed her hat trick at 1:38 with a little help from Bendus and sophomore Bailey Bram. Jones joined Bram and junior Jesse Scanzano as the third Laker to score a hat trick in the 2009-2010 season.

A water main break in Erie forced the Lakers to postpone the second game with Robert Morris, scheduled for Sunday afternoon. They will play again on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Ice Arena.
