Women's lacrosse undefeated

The Mercyhurst College women’s lacrosse team, ranked fifth in the nation, is continuing to dominate on the field, outshooting teams left and right.

So why should last Friday’s game against Tiffin University be any different?

If you know the team, then you know it wasn’t.

The Lakers maintained their undefeated record of 4-0 and hope to keep the success coming throughout the season.

Friday the women pulled away with a 19-5 victory. An amazing seven straight unanswered goals were scored with 2 min and 18 second left in the first half, allowing the Lakers to take a huge 11-3 lead.
Goals were scored by seniors Christie Jennings and Celeste Shefferly, junior Kim Masterton, sophomores Kelly Palmer, Jessica Lincoln and Laura Trenti and freshman Melissa Leohard, proving the triumph was a great team effort.

The team may be young, but they are strong.

“We have a young team, but the leadership and skill level that our team has is unbelievable,” Jennings said.

She adds that there are many factors that have led to the great success already achieved.

Still the team pushes to make each other even better, day in and day out, and it truly shows. Each game the team grows more together, and it’s reflected in their play.

Any team that comes up against these Lakers should prepare for the worst.

The women will take on the Edinboro University Scots Wednesday, March 17 at 4 p.m., in their first PSAC West match-up. Hoping to uphold their undefeated record and keep their winning streak going, it’s likely that the luck of the Irish will be on the Lakers’ side today.
