Halloween Skate

For the first time since 2011 Mercyhurst is hosting a Halloween skate at the ice arena on Friday, Oct. 25, for students. The skate starts at 9:30 p.m. after the hockey game and goes until 11 p.m.

The Halloween skate is a costume skate and was set up as a collaborative effort by the Student Activities Committee and the Mercyhurst figure skating club. The club will place candy throughout the arena during the free skate. The club will also run a contest for best costume, with the winner given a prize.

The arena has 60 pairs of donated ice skates for students who don’t have their own. The arena still recommends bringing your own. Borrowing the skates and attending the event are both free of charge.

The figure skating club will be attending and are willing to offer their assistance to any aspiring skaters who need help. For anyone who has to wait for a pair of ice skates to open up, there will be coloring books to help pass the time. Club co-president Kelsey Racutt said, “Come for a spooky skate, free candy and a great time with the Mercyhurst figure skating club.”

As part of Haunted Hurst the event will be advertised with pamphlets around the campus. Other ice skating events that Mercyhurst hosts include the annual Valentine’s day themed “Skate with a date” in February and Gliding with the stars which takes place weekly throughout the year.
